IELTS Reading

Evaluate your understanding of written English in academic and general contexts

Overview

The IELTS Reading module evaluates how well you understand written English, both academic and general. You will read three long passages (Academic) or shorter texts (General Training) and answer 40 questions. Question types include True/False/Not Given, multiple choice, matching headings, and sentence completion. Reading requires more than scanning for words — you must understand ideas, arguments, and implied meanings. Skimming for the main idea and scanning for details are crucial strategies. Time management is also important, as you have 60 minutes for all passages. Practicing different reading materials, including articles, essays, and newspapers, can improve speed and comprehension. Strong reading skills help you understand instructions, academic texts, and professional documents. Success in this module shows that you can extract information quickly, think critically, and read confidently in English.
