If you think scoring Band 7 is too challenging, take a step back and dedicate 60 days of your life to achieving your dream result. Now, the question is how to cover all of this within just 60 days?
If I reply with a positive answer that 60 days is more than enough, you can do great even if you are not good at basics. No more panic attacks. This blog is for you!
"Success doesn't come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently." – Marie Forleo.
Remember, not talent, but consistency, is what matters. So let's get started, and I'll create a roadmap for you - an easy-to-follow breakdown for anyone who wants to achieve a good score in IELTS. This blog walks you through a week-by-week roadmap to help you hit that Band 7 confidently.
How to get 7 Band in IELTS in 60 days - Break Down
Week 1: Focus on the Foundation
"You can't improve what you don't measure." – Peter Drucker.
In the first week, you need to understand the structures and all modules of IELTS thoroughly. And for that, you have to take a full-length mock test first. It will give you an idea of where you stand.
It will provide you with a complete understanding of where you need improvement, such as adjusting your reading time, or just mumbling in the speaking test?
Within this week:
- Make yourself familiar with all modules of IELTS
- Try to find out where you lack
- Focus on structures and tones
Remember, you have to take it seriously and make each time count so that you can't miss the arrow this time. Many organisations offer free mock tests and classes, like MIE English Academy. Admit yourself and make a better start, which is free of cost.
Week 2: Build your basics
By the second week, you will become aware of where you need improvement and where you require additional effort. Now focus on this week to build your foundations.
Do not try to skip the ground and step onto the final stairs at once; this means you must focus on making the foundation stronger rather than concentrating on the IELTS modules. You must ensure clarity and demonstrate core strengths in your grammar, sentence structure, and, of course, use connectors.
Also, you cannot miss the importance of vocabulary. IELTS serves as a roadmap for learning English, from basic to advanced levels.
For example, instead of saying:
- “I like cities.”
- say.
- “I enjoy the vibrant energy of urban environments.”
Try to use complex sentences instead of simple sentences, adding advanced vocabulary. That will help. Watch TED Talks, follow BBC Learning English, and write five new words daily with example sentences. Make a habit of reading short articles and noting useful phrases.
Week 3: A week on listening
Now that you have established your basics, let's go through each module one by one. Start with the listening part. Remember, a listening test is not just about hearing English and writing it down, but also about understanding the answer and predicting it.
Practice 3–4 full listening tests. Focus on:
- Map labeling
- Multiple-choice
- Form completion
Write down what you mishear or miss entirely. Also -
"The quieter you become, the more you can hear." – Ram Dass
Week 4: Reading – speed + strategy
- “I could not make it on time”,
- “I could not finish it on time” ,
- “It was huge to cover”
Sounds familiar too? Yes! This is so common when it comes to IELTS Reading. The time pressure makes it tricky. This week, focus on question types such as True/False/Not Given, heading matching, and summary completion.
Try to follow the skim and scanning method. Do not try to even focus on one line at a time. On my other blog, I have mentioned some tips and tricks regarding IELTS reading that will help you achieve your desired score.
Week 5: Writing task 1 – the data tells a story
Let's divide it into two parts: Task 1 and Task 2. This week, we will follow task 1, part [number].
- Bar charts, line graphs, pie charts
- Maps and process diagrams
Sample language:
"Overall, car ownership increased steadily, while bicycle usage declined."
Use linking phrases like: in contrast, similarly, Over the period shown.
Practice five reports this week. Remember, clarity and structure matter more than the words themselves. Try to make it precise rather than relying solely on complexity.
Week 6: Writing task 2 – express, don’t impress
Writing part -Task 2, and you are almost close to your destination. Avoid sounding too robotic; instead, strive to be genuine and maintain a friendly tone.
Practice three common question types:
- Opinion (Do you agree or disagree?)
- Discussion (Discuss both views)
- Problem/Solution
Structure your essay like this:
- Introduction
- Body Paragraph 1 – Main point + example
- Body Paragraph 2 – Second point + example
- Conclusion
Try to write two essays each day so that it becomes your habit.
Week 7: Speaking – how to be confident!
Even experts with fluency experience nervousness issues due to time constraints or overthinking. From the beginning, do not act too robotic; just be a bit natural, clear, and precise.' To achieve fluency without overthinking, practice daily.
- Limit your time.
- Speak in front of a mirror.
- Watch movies, and practice the dialogues.
- Record yourself to know your shortcomings.
Record yourself. Listen to native answers and note how they use fillers like "Well," "Actually," "I suppose." Avoid memorised scripts. Instead, build flexible, real responses.
Week 8: Final Review & Full Mocks
Now you have finally reached your goal. You have gained skills; now it is time to put them to the test. Try to give mock tests at least 3-4 times.
Revise all four modules:
- Review vocabulary logs
- Go over writing feedback
- Analyse your weakest area and give it extra time
Most importantly, do not panic; try to stay calm. Overthinking won’t let you do any good.
